Almost every person has faced the problem of acne eruptions in the pre-pubertal or pubertal period. For some, the appearance of acne is transient, while for others the disease takes a long, severe course. The peak incidence occurs at 15-16 years of age. During puberty, acne is detected in 90% of girls and 100% of boys. Acne appears earlier in girls and later in boys, and is more widespread and severe in the latter. Thus, at 12 years of age, acne is observed in 37.1% of girls and 15.4% of boys, while at 16 years of age, it is observed in 38.8% and 53.3%, respectively.

Objective: To evaluate the efficacy and tolerability of minocycline in the treatment of moderate and severe forms of acne vulgaris in accordance with modern understanding of the disease pathogenesis.

Materials and methods. A long-term, multi-purpose observational study was conducted, which included 28 patients with an established diagnosis of acne vulgaris, moderate and severe forms.

Patients received monotherapy with the drug Minolexin® at a dose of 50-100 mg per day, depending on the severity. Before the start of the study and after the end of treatment, patients were examined with a count of eruptive elements, clinical and biochemical blood tests, assessment of sebaceous gland function, laser scanning microscopy, laser Doppler flowmetry, determination of the dermatology life quality index, and photography (with patient consent). During therapy, patient examinations and assessment of drug tolerability were performed.

Results. Evidence was obtained on the efficacy of minocycline in the treatment of moderate and severe acne vulgaris, confirmed by visual dermatological indicators, non-invasive research methods (results of sebumetry, confocal laser scanning microscopy, Doppler flowmetry), and dermatology life quality index scores. The study of clinical and laboratory parameters revealed no safety concerns. No adverse events were recorded during the study.

Conclusion. Minolexin® (minocycline) is a highly effective and safe drug for the treatment of moderate and severe acne vulgaris and can be recommended for practical use in outpatient settings.
