The modern concepts of intestinal microbiocenosis disorders resulting from antibacterial therapy are outlined. Diagnostic data obtained during a clinical study comparing the efficacy and safety of an innovative form of azithromycin with the traditional one are presented.

Acute otitis media in children is an important medical and social problem. Its significance is driven by the high prevalence of this inflammatory disease among young, preschool, and school-aged children. Otitis is often accompanied by impaired auditory function, and if it becomes chronic, it carries the risk of developing hearing loss. In turn, hearing loss in childhood leads to impaired speech development and problems with a child's socialization.

The article describes the results of an open comparative study in children with rhinosinusitis, evaluating the efficacy and safety of conventional azithromycin versus azithromycin with lactulose. The latter demonstrated equivalent antimicrobial activity but superior safety profile – preserving the balance of intestinal microflora and reducing the risk of antibiotic-associated diarrhea.
