Can you name the metals that melt in the palm of your hand?
Students at Secondary School No. 54 in Kirov will likely know the answer to this question by the end of the school year.
In October 2018, employees of the Kirov Branch of JSC "AVVA RUS" purchased and delivered 75 chemistry textbooks to students in grades 9, 10, and 11.
"Popularizing chemistry is the primary goal that the team at JSC 'AVVA RUS' is striving to achieve. Since pharmaceuticals belong to the chemical industry, it is crucial that students in the Kirov region develop a passion for this science and become sought-after professionals in their future careers," said Alexey Egorov, General Director of "AVVA RUS". The handover of the textbooks was attended by the school principal and specialized teachers.
Olga Gordienko, Director of the Kirov Branch, announced that "AVVA RUS" plans to provide chemical reagents and solutions to the school free of charge for practical classes in their laboratories. "Currently, secondary educational institutions lack a complete set of reagents and solutions, forcing students to study chemical reactions only theoretically. This reduces engagement, diminishes the visual impact of experiments, and obscures the beauty and clarity of chemical transformations. With these reagents, students will be able to observe and study chemical reactions in real conditions, as well as conduct scientific experiments, ensuring a deeper understanding of the subject and inspiring talented students to pursue careers in this field," stated Olga Gordienko.
School Principal Alexander Yatsyn expressed his deep gratitude to Olga Gordienko, Director of the Kirov Branch of "AVVA RUS", for her assistance in acquiring these essential educational materials that the school could not otherwise obtain. "‘AVVA RUS’ is our reliable partner in nurturing the younger generation and supporting students’ passion for studying chemistry as a fundamental science," said School Principal Alexander Yatsyn.
"Our company actively engages students in science. In early November, ‘AVVA RUS’ participated in organizing the Tournament of Young Chemists—a competition for schoolchildren aimed at developing skills in solving complex chemical problems and defending their viewpoints in scientific debates, or 'chem-battles'," said HR Director Irina Andrianova. "In September, we congratulated the winners of the First Regional Chemistry Olympiad, initiated and sponsored by the pharmaceutical company ‘AVVA RUS’. The prize fund exceeded 500,000 rubles; the winners received substantial monetary prizes, and the school of the top winner was able to purchase an interactive chemistry laboratory. We do not plan to stop here. The new academic year lies ahead, and we still have many ideas to implement."
Such initiatives confirm that leading enterprises in the Kirov region are invested in educating school students to cultivate valuable, highly qualified specialists in the future and to promote chemical science among the youth.
For those who read to the end and want to know which metals melt in the palm of your hand—they are Gallium, Cesium, and Francium. To transform them from solid to liquid, a temperature of less than 30 degrees Celsius is sufficient.
