Winners of International School Olympiads

On December 23, Russian Minister of Education and Science Olga Vasilyeva met with the winners of international school student olympiads who were part of the Russian national teams. Among them was Alexander Artemyev from Kirov, now a student at the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology.

According to the press service of the Russian Ministry of Education and Science, in 2016, Russian school students added 38 medals to the "collection" of international awards, including 19 gold, 15 silver, and 4 bronze medals. High results were achieved at the Chemistry and Physics Olympiads, where the Russian teams placed 2nd and 4th, respectively.

"Alexander Artemyev, a graduate of the Kirov Physics and Mathematics Lyceum, showed a brilliant result at the International Physics Olympiad. He was recognized as the best theorist and received a special prize as the most successful representative of Europe," reported the Ministry of Education of the Kirov Region.

It is worth recalling that in 2016, A. Artemyev had already won the Romanian Physics Tournament and the final stage of the All-Russian School Student Physics Olympiad, and was a silver medalist at the Asian Physics Olympiad. Alexander also excelled in the Unified State Exam, receiving the highest scores in three subjects: 100 points in Physics, Computer Science, and Mathematics. After graduating from the lyceum, the Kirov school student successfully passed the entrance exams to one of Russia's most prestigious universities – MIPT.

During the meeting with Olga Vasilyeva, participants discussed the results of the national teams' performances in 2016, Russia's participation in the development of the international olympiad movement, the development of the All-Russian Olympiad, and also touched upon issues related to the upcoming International Mathematical Olympiad in 2020 in St. Petersburg.

"I am confident that the freshman olympians have everything: talent, character, and willpower to achieve excellent results in their studies, obtain a profession, and realize their potential. I would like to express special gratitude to your coaches and teachers for their dedicated work and belief in their students," noted O. Vasilyeva during the discussions. "For its part, the Ministry is doing everything necessary so that you and your comrades can not only successfully participate in international competitions but also achieve high results. In particular, the amount of funding allocated for the preparation of the Russian Federation teams for international competitions is increasing annually. In 2017, 57 million rubles have been allocated for these purposes."
