Vyatka State University and AVVA RUS competition

In the Year of Ecology in Russia, Vyatka State University has launched an Experimental Scientific-Educational Program with the support of the Kirov-based pharmaceutical enterprise JSC "AVVA RUS".

Pharmaceutical biotechnology is one of the university's priority development areas. We began our cooperation with JSC 'AVVA RUS' back in April, and now our work is starting to bear fruit. Students have already visited the company's production site, and many noted that JSC 'AVVA RUS' is a modern company where they want to work and develop," said Rector of VyatSU, Valentin Pugach.

In early April, VyatSU announced the "ECOPHARM BREAKTHROUGH" competition, which offered rewards for the winners. The pharmaceutical company JSC "AVVA RUS" acted as the competition's sponsor. For two months, students prepared for the public defense and developed environmental programs applicable to a modern pharmaceutical enterprise. They devised new ways to protect the environment while working in the pharmaceutical industry.

On May 27, 2017, the ceremonial day arrived. All participants were presented with commemorative diplomas, and the best students were awarded cash prizes of 20,000, 15,000, and 5,000 rubles for first, second, and third place, respectively. The winners were Zukhra Khasanshina, Maria Volkova, and Yulia Beresneva. The students were congratulated by Rector Valentin Pugach and the Director of the Kirov Branch of JSC "AVVA RUS", Olga Gordienko.

"We invite the best students for paid internships with the possibility of further employment and try to motivate them with such competitions. 'ECOPHARM BREAKTHROUGH' was aimed at unlocking the students' potential and increasing young people's interest in the biopharmaceutical industry. Moreover, during the public defense of the competition works, we were able to identify students who match our spirit and level of training," said Olga Gordienko, Director of the Kirov Branch of JSC "AVVA RUS".

The competition was held in two stages. First, the entries were evaluated by experts, and a shortlist was formed. Then, the shortlisted works were presented in a personal defense. There were many evaluation criteria, ranging from content to the ability to present the material. "I really liked the competition, even though it was difficult to prepare in such a short time. I learned a lot of interesting things about the environmental aspects of a pharmaceutical company's work, familiarized myself with the standards, and tried to present a new environmental model. Receiving the cash reward was especially pleasant. It was very motivating," shared Zukhra Khasanshina, winner of the "ECOPHARM BREAKTHROUGH" competition.
